About our family
We’re Ivna (developer @ Ericsson + med‑ed app founder), Dominik (project manager / med-ed app founder), and baby Nora.
We’ve saved for years, but Croatian property prices rocketed – one place we watched jumped from about €180k to €260k in a year. Our 34 m² loft is bursting; we dream of an 85 – 100 m², 3‑bed home where Nora and a future sibling can thrive. Our Story
A baby. Two tech jobs. One room. Zero extra square meters.
Hello! We’re Ivna and Dominik, new parents living in Zagreb, Croatia. Ivna writes code at Ericsson by day and ships updates to our side-project – a popular mobile study app used by medical students across Croatia – by night (and often during nap windows). I, Dominik, wrangle product roadmaps, support tickets, marketing, and everything that isn’t Xcode or Android Studio. In April 2025, our daughter Nora arrived and re‑calibrated our entire universe.
We currently live in the upper floor of a shared house: 34 m² total – one multipurpose room, a tiny kitchen, and a bathroom you can cross in three steps. We’re grateful to have a roof, but adding a crib, changing table, bottles, and work laptops turned the space into Ninja‑level Tetris. We would love to grow our family (we hope to welcome a second child when it’s feasible), yet we’re already juggling furniture every night just to unfold a sleep space.
For two years we’ve been saving hard – cutting non‑essentials, funneling app revenue, saying “later” to vacations, so we could bring a down payment to the bank and qualify for a mortgage. We reached ~€40,000 saved … and then housing prices sprinted away from us.

Croatia’s price spike through our eyes

We’re not economists, just parents watching listings like hawks. Here’s what happened to one real 3‑bed flat we tracked:
Last year: asking about €230,000
This year: relisted at ~€310,000
In other words, while we were adding € to our savings, the goalpost moved tens of thousands further away. Banks look at our combined salaries and say, “Nice, but you still need X% down” – and the required down payment inflates with each price jump. It feels like running on a treadmill that speeds up every month.
Growth was modest until 2018, but prices took off after 2020, with the steepest annual gains recorded in 2022‑25. The spike coincides with rapid post‑earthquake reconstruction, euro‑adoption, a tourism boom and sustained undersupply of new stock.
We know we’re not alone; many Croatian young families face the same squeeze: wages that track reality slowly, home prices that leap. CrawlToHome is our attempt to hack the gap – with transparency, creativity, and community.
Our Dream Home
Nothing Fancy, Just Enough Room
Our goal is 85 – 100 m² (flat or small house – whichever is more realistic with:
3 bedrooms (Nora, future kid, and us)
1 living area for actual together‑time (and not stacking baby gear on a bed)
Kitchen where more than one person can stand
1 bathroom (we promise not to scope for a spa)
Reliable heat/AC + safe wiring/plumbing (Croatian winters & baby safety!)
That’s it. No pool, no marble counters, no wine cellar – just breathable family space.
Funding Target Range:
We’re aiming to bridge the gap between our savings + bank mortgage eligibility and current market prices. Based on recent listings, the gap could be €150k – €180k (will update monthly as we talk to banks and track prices). Final target will be posted in real time in the progress bar.
